CHALLENGES
Wet slippery conditions.
With the soil onsite being mostly clay, the driving conditions often haven’t been favorable, especially after rain. Luckly our all-wheel-drive trucks have been able to overcome these obstacles.
Water.
Water onsite has been tricky to access including one visitation requiring us to fill from a water source off site. Our large volume tanks meant we could keep the amount of refills to a minimum.
Council.
The Auckland City Council noted that the natural colour of our NZ wooden fibre hydromulch was similar colour to the clay onsite making it hard to distinguish where we had sprayed. We added green dye into the hydromulch to provide clear visibility.
Other contractors.
Being a subdivision there are multiple other contractors onsite at any one time. Being able to stabilise large areas quickly meant we weren’t holding up other contractors being able to carry out their work.
PROJECT DETAILS
Having started the project in 2022, Hick Bros had used hay mulch to stabilise exposed areas.
However, with the site being surrounded by houses on all sides and being located in a high wind zone, dust was a major issue along with the wind blowing the hay mulch around.
With complaints from neighbors coming in each time hay mulching got done, Hick Bros decided to explore alternative options for stabilisation and revegetation.
Hick Bros had used Instant Green hydromulch in the past at other projects and knew that this was the solution. With no risk of dust during application and also the added benefit of locking dust down once applied, Hydromulching was a no-brainer.
Instant Green sent two trucks to site before the 2023/2024 Christmas break to lock down and stabilise a very large portion of the site. Since then we have been visiting regularly to progressively stabilise areas as they become ready.
