Parklands Subdivision
Project Overview
Following Cyclone Gabrielle, approximately 350,000m³ of silt was imported to fill the Parklands development for Napier City Council. The fine, loose silt created significant dust management and erosion control challenges during construction. Standard watering methods proved inefficient and unsustainable due to the high water demand and large working area.
Scope
Instant Green was engaged to stabilise exposed silt areas across the subdivision and provide a long-term dust control solution.
290,000m² of surface area was treated over 10 days, ensuring the site met environmental compliance standards and safety requirements.
Our Solution
Stabi-Mulch
-
Applied at a rate of 2500kg/ha
-
Combined with water cart additive to pre-stabilise construction zones
-
Immediately followed by Stabi-Mulch application once areas reached finished level
-
Provided instant dust suppression and surface stabilisation without ongoing watering
Challenges
-
Managing large-scale exposed silt highly susceptible to wind erosion
-
Tight project timeframe with multiple work fronts active simultaneously
-
Achieving environmental compliance during dry and windy conditions
-
Maintaining construction access while stabilisation was underway
Results
-
Instant dust and erosion control across all treated areas
-
Zero watering requirements post-application due to the 1378% water-holding capacity of Stabi-Mulch
-
Superior stability compared to traditional hydromulch or tackifier methods
-
Completed ahead of schedule with excellent visual and environmental outcomes for Napier City Council
